Geena Davis wears a Watch-It

Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise (1991) starts as a weekend getaway and turns into a fugitive run after Louise shoots a man who is assaulting Thelma outside a roadhouse. Geena Davis plays Thelma Dickinson, who begins the film a meek Arkansas housewife packing for two days away and ends it remade by the road, sunglasses on, hair loose, a revolver in the car.

Her watch belongs to the woman she is at the start. It is a small fashion watch by Watch-It: a triangular quartz piece with a pink faux mother-of-pearl face set in a gold-tone metal housing, worn on a pink alligator-print leather strap. It is decorative rather than a tool watch, and on screen it reads as a glint of gold at her wrist in the white Thunderbird.

The prop survives. Heritage Auctions sold the screen-worn watch in a single lot that gathered both leads' timepieces and a pair of Thelma's sandals: Thelma's triangular Watch-It alongside Louise's rectangular Talli, a silver-housed quartz watch with a Roman-numeral face and turquoise and coral accents on the band. Both showed production wear, and Thelma's had lost its glass bezel by the time it was cataloged. The lot carried a Heritage certificate of authenticity, and Prop Store has separately offered Thelma's watch as well.
