Gaspard Ulliel wears an IWC Portugieser

Laurent Tuel's Le Premier Cercle (2009), released in English as Ultimate Heist, is a French crime drama about the Malakian family, descendants of Armenian genocide survivors who run an underworld empire in the south of France. Gaspard Ulliel, who died in a skiing accident in January 2022 at thirty-seven, plays Anton, the son who wants out; Jean Reno plays his father Milo, who will not let him go.

Ulliel wears an IWC Portugieser, a steel model with a black dial, on his right wrist. IWC built the first Portugieser in 1939 after two Portuguese importers asked for a wristwatch as accurate as a marine chronometer. To house a large, precise pocket-watch movement, IWC made the case about 41.5mm across at a time when most wristwatches were closer to 34mm, and gave it a clean dial with slim leaf hands.
