Franco Silva wears a Panerai Radiomir

Mizar, Sabotaggio in mare reached Italian theaters in January 1954, and American ones under the title The Woman Who Came from the Sea. It is loosely built on Luigi Ferraro, a Gamma frogman who posed as a civil servant at the Italian consulate in Alexandretta, Turkey, and sank three Allied ships carrying chromium ore. Franco Silva plays the fictional version, Comandante Luigi Ferri, a Navy diver sent into Turkey under cover, assisted by a woman diver named Mizar, played by Dawn Addams, with the British closing in as he recovers a codebook and mines merchant shipping. The film was the second of only two pictures produced by Film Costellazione.

The watch is on Ferri's wrist for most of the diving scenes: a Rolex-Panerai 3646, the 47 millimeter cushion-cased Radiomir made for the frogman commandos of the Royal Italian Navy's First Submarine Group Command. Rolex built the cases, on a sealed three-piece construction going back to a 1903 patent by Francois Borgel, and Panerai supplied the dials, with the radium luminous material sealed inside the cells of a sandwich construction. The clearest look arrives when Ferri reaches through a porthole for a notebook of secret British codes and the cushion case fills the corner of the frame. Later he surfaces wearing the watch on one wrist and a 1940s Panerai compass on the other arm.
