Edward Bloom fills a field with daffodils because he has heard they are Sandra's favorite flower, and he refuses to leave until she agrees to marry him. Ewan McGregor plays the young Bloom in Tim Burton's Big Fish (2003), the tall-tale version of the dying father Albert Finney plays in the film's present day: the man who caught the uncatchable fish, befriended a giant, and fell in love at first sight when time seemed to stop. Whether any of it happened is the film's open question, and McGregor plays every impossible story straight.

Through Bloom's adventuring years he wears a Hamilton Khaki, the brand's military field line. Hamilton built its reputation supplying watches to American forces in both World Wars, and the Khaki descends from those issued pieces, so a plain, legible field watch sits naturally on a young man who ships off to war and comes home with stories. Worn & Wound, in its history of Hamilton on screen, places the watch on McGregor during the picture's wartime sequence.
