Evan Peters wears a Hamilton Pulsomatic

The best scene in X-Men: Days of Future Past is Quicksilver clearing a Pentagon kitchen to Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle." The best scene in X-Men: Apocalypse is Quicksilver emptying an exploding mansion to Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams." Bryan Singer directed both, Simon Kinberg wrote Apocalypse, and Evan Peters plays the scene with the unworried grin of a teenager who moves too fast to be afraid. The film is set in 1983; James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Oscar Isaac as the villain Apocalypse are the nominal leads, and Peters steals the picture anyway.

The Hamilton on his wrist is a Pulsomatic, which makes it an odd fit for 1983, because the Pulsomatic did not exist yet. Hamilton released it in 2010, to mark forty years since the Pulsar, the 1970 watch that was the world's first digital display. The Pulsomatic is the modern descendant: an automatic movement, the kind that winds itself off the wearer's motion, driving a digital readout instead of hands. The retro-digital look points back at the era the film recreates, even if the watch itself is decades too new for it.

Hamilton has placed watches in hundreds of films, and the watch press read this one as a fitting match: a digital Hamilton for the one character who experiences time differently from everyone around him.
