Ross Carpenter runs a charter boat in Hawaii by day and sings in a nightclub by night, and what he wants is the Westwind, the sailboat he built with his late father and cannot afford to buy back. Norman Taurog directed Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962) for Hal Wallis at Paramount, with Stella Stevens as the nightclub singer Robin and Laurel Goodwin as a wealthy socialite who poses as a cannery waitress to get close to him. The film gave the world Return to Sender, which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Stevens had musical numbers of her own, but the voice was Gilda Maiken's, mimed, and the recordings have never been released.

The watch is the part of the costume Elvis brought himself. On the charter boat he wears his own Rolex Submariner, reference 6538, the oversized-crown model collectors call the Big Crown, and he wears it the working way, on a fabric strap rather than a bracelet. The watch press that later combed the frames found the close-ups good enough to call the reference, and the French spotting article that first logged the watch noted the cloth band as well. A dive watch on a boat captain needs no explaining. This one happens to have been among the most expensive watches its owner had.
