Eli Wallach was in his mid-seventies when he played Don Altobello in The Godfather Part III, and he built the part out of misdirection. Altobello is an old New York don who plays the harmless family friend, all soft voice and gentle jokes, while he quietly arranges Michael Corleone's murder.
