Kill the Referee (À mort l'arbitre, 1984) is Jean-Pierre Mocky's dark comedy about a gang of football hooligans who hunt down a referee after a penalty call costs their team a match. Mocky wrote and directed it and cast himself as Inspector Granowski, which was typical of the anarchic, prolific filmmaker who made more than sixty features. Eddy Mitchell plays the referee, Maurice Bruno, and Michel Serrault leads the hooligans.

Eddy Mitchell was born Claude Moine and first became famous in the early 1960s as the singer of Les Chaussettes Noires, one of France's first rock and roll acts. He built a second career as an actor and as the host of La Dernière Séance, a long-running French television show devoted to classic cinema. The watch he wears as Bruno has been identified as a Rolex Datejust, the steel automatic with a date window that Rolex has produced continuously since 1945.
