Eddie Murphy plays Jack McCall, a fast-talking literary agent, in A Thousand Words (2012). Brian Robbins directed from Steve Koren's screenplay, and the premise is pure high-concept: McCall offends a New Age guru, a Bodhi tree appears in his backyard, and every word he speaks drops one of its leaves. When the last leaf falls, he dies. Paramount shelved the film for four years before releasing it in 2012 to a 0% Rotten Tomatoes score.
The watch on his wrist is a yellow-gold, square-cased dress watch on a leather strap, identified by watch-spotting write-ups as a Cartier Santos Dumont, the slim version of the square watch Louis Cartier built for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1904. On screen the gold case is clear but the dial markings are not, so the Cartier reading rests on those write-ups and the visible shape rather than a legible signature.
