Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game for Polk High and brought it up for the rest of his life. By the time the show finds him he is selling women's shoes, sparring with his wife, and sinking into the couch with a hand in his waistband. Ed O'Neill played him for eleven seasons of Married... with Children, from 1987 to 1997, the patron saint of the American sitcom loser.

The watch is a plain silver Timex, the kind a man buys once and forgets he owns. We know it is a Timex because the prop auction house Propstore sold it in 2023, as lot 1381, billed as Al Bundy's wallet and watch. The wallet came packed with the paperwork of a small disaster: two replica copies of Bundy's revoked driver's license, four credit cards, two fake hundred-dollar bills and one fake single. The lot ties to the second-season episode Born to Walk, in which Al flunks his written driving test the same afternoon his daughter Kelly passes hers, then collects a ticket for driving without a license and another for a broken taillight.

By Propstore's account, the wallet was never seen in the episode. The studio assembled the whole revoked-license gag, fake hundreds and all, and none of it reached the camera. The bundle survived anyway, the silver Timex tucked in among the props, and it went to auction carrying a presale estimate of two to four thousand pounds. The listing recorded no model and no reference, only the brand, which is about as much as the watch ever asked anyone to notice.
