Dwight Yoakam wears an unidentified watch

In a tight close-up, Doc Miles thumbs an earbud into place with a gold watch on a gold bracelet riding his wrist. Dwight Yoakam plays Miles in Crank, the 2006 action film where a hit man named Chev Chelios is poisoned with a drug that will stop his heart the moment his pulse drops, forcing him to keep his adrenaline up by any means for ninety minutes. Doc Miles is the shady physician Chev keeps on the phone, talking him through how to stay alive.

Miles is comic relief with a medical degree, the calm voice explaining that a man can outrun a Chinese cocktail by flooding himself with adrenaline, and the gold watch suits a doctor who clearly bills in cash. The dial does not turn to the camera and no maker is legible, so the brand stays unidentified.

The whole film is a clock, ninety minutes of a man refusing to let his heart slow down, and Doc Miles keeps the count from a safe distance. Yoakam, better known as a country singer, plays him as the only relaxed person in a movie that never once stops sprinting.
