In 1982, two friends from the Bronx walked out of a Sentry Armored Car depot with millions of dollars in a robbery that took almost no planning and almost no violence. Dito Montiel adapted it into Empire State (2013), with Adam Mazer writing the screenplay. Liam Hemsworth plays Chris Potamitis, the security guard who mentioned the vault's weak security to the wrong person. Michael Angarano is that person. Dwayne Johnson plays Detective James Ransome, the cop trying to work out how it happened.

Johnson wears what appears to be a Casio G-Shock DW9052-1V, an entry-level model with shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, and a digital display with stopwatch and alarm functions. Observers have noted that the production department appeared to black out the watch's red G-Shock text with a marker, though the "water 200m resist" text remained visible. Casio introduced the G-Shock line in 1983 after engineer Kikuo Ibe spent years developing a case design that could survive a 10-meter drop. The DW9052 sits at the base of that lineup.
