One word: plastics. Mike Nichols's The Graduate gave Dustin Hoffman his breakout as Benjamin Braddock, a young man who has done everything right and has no idea what any of it is for, drifting into an affair with Mrs. Robinson and then chasing her daughter, Elaine.

Ben wears a plain watch on a black leather strap, his wrist on the wheel of the red Alfa Romeo Spider as he races to reach Elaine in the climactic drive. The closest anyone has gotten is a description, a steel case and a brown gradient dial, with no maker attached. The only listing for the film, on a shopping aggregator, offers a modern Hamilton Intra-Matic as a lookalike rather than the actual watch. For now it stays unidentified.
