Dustin Hoffman wears a LeJour Chronograph

Robert Benton's Kramer vs. Kramer won five Academy Awards in 1980, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman plays Ted Kramer, a Manhattan advertising executive whose wife Joanna walks out on him and their young son Billy in the opening scene. The rest of the film follows Ted learning to be a father while holding his career together, then fighting for custody when Joanna returns.

The LeJour chronograph on Hoffman's wrist appears throughout: a PVD-coated case, a hand-wound Valjoux 7734 movement, two subdials, and a rubber-link strap. LeJour is an obscure name, French branding on a Swiss movement, known mostly to vintage chronograph collectors. On Ted Kramer it reads as the watch of a man who cares enough to wear something interesting but not enough to wear something anyone would recognize. It turns up in the famous French-toast scene, where his first attempt to cook breakfast for Billy ends in burnt bread and broken eggs.
