San Francisco's Chinatown goes fully supernatural in John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China (1986), a film that treats Kurt Russell's swaggering truck driver Jack Burton as the sidekick in his own movie. Dennis Dun's Wang Chi is the actual hero, and James Hong's Lo Pan is a 2,000-year-old sorcerer who needs a green-eyed woman to lift his curse. Donald Li plays Eddie Lee, one of the allies who helps Burton and Wang navigate the labyrinth beneath Chinatown. Kim Cattrall and Victor Wong round out the group.
Eddie wears a gold Rolex Datejust, glimpsed on his wrist in the group scenes. Rolex introduced the Datejust in 1945 as its first self-winding chronometer with a date window on the dial, and it has been the brand's quiet workhorse ever since, plainer than the Day-Date and less sporting than the Submariner.
