In Le Pari, the 1997 comedy Didier Bourdon and Bernard Campan co-directed and headlined, the two play brothers-in-law who cannot stand each other and bet that each can quit smoking for fifteen days, until the next family gathering. Bourdon is Didier, a wealthy Parisian pharmacist married to Murielle; Campan is Bernard, a schoolteacher in the suburbs married to her sister Victoria. Bourdon and Campan made up two thirds of Les Inconnus, the French comedy trio, and the film runs on the distance between how simple the wager sounds and how badly the two come apart trying to honor it. They reach day fifteen with their word intact and their marriages the worse for it.

Didier's watch, by the one published account of it, is a Rolex Datejust in steel and gold on a Jubilee bracelet, the two-tone version rather than the plain steel one. Rolex launched the Datejust in 1945 as the first self-winding wristwatch to show the date in a window on the dial, and built the five-link Jubilee bracelet for it that same year. It became the brand's steadiest seller and a standard choice for a professional with money, which Didier, as a Parisian pharmacist, is. No clear view of the dial survives in the available images, so the two-tone Datejust is the documented description rather than a confirmed model.
