Detective Keith Frazier runs the hostage negotiation when Clive Owen's Dalton Russell and his crew seize the Manhattan Trust Bank in Spike Lee's Inside Man. Under the fedora and cufflinks, on Frazier's wrist, is a gold dress watch from a brand almost no one recognizes: Gevril, and specifically its Chelsea, named for the Manhattan neighborhood.

The Gevril Chelsea is 39mm of 18-karat yellow gold with a formal, almost Patek-like dial: Roman numerals, day and date, and a moonphase. It runs an ETA 2824 with a Dubois Depraz 9310 module stacked on top for the calendar and moon, and it was a limited edition of 100 pieces. The watch sits on a gold Jubilee-style bracelet, which is also why it could be read as the closely related Gevril Madison; the case and dial point to the Chelsea.

Inside Man (2006) was Spike Lee's widest release and his turn at the heist genre, a descendant of Dog Day Afternoon down to a couple of easter-egg cast members. Russell's robbery is a cover for exposing a wartime secret the bank's founder kept in a safe-deposit box, and Frazier works it out slowly.
