Daniel Craig plays Ted Hughes in Christine Jeffs' Sylvia (2003), the biographical drama about the marriage between Hughes and the poet Sylvia Plath, played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Craig was three years from Casino Royale and largely unknown to American audiences when he took the role. Hughes is a difficult character to play — a major poet in his own right who spent decades being blamed for Plath's suicide and refused to discuss their marriage publicly until shortly before his own death. Craig plays him as physically imposing and emotionally withdrawn, a man who loves Plath but cannot handle the intensity of living with her depression. His watch has not been identified.
