Jimmy Logan needs a man who can open a vault, and the man he needs is in prison. Logan Lucky (2017) is Steven Soderbergh's heist comedy about the Logan brothers, Channing Tatum's Jimmy and Adam Driver's Clyde, a bartender back from Iraq with a prosthetic arm, robbing the Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend while dodging track security and the FBI. The safecracker they break out for the day is Joe Bang, played by a bleached, tattooed Daniel Craig, cast in May 2016 while he was still serving as James Bond. Bang's vault solution is chemistry: an explosive improvised from bleach, gummy bears, and a dietary salt substitute.
The wide black cuff on Bang's wrist is documented by the company that built it. Red Monkey Designs of Los Angeles sells the Sin City GT in a Logan Lucky edition marketed "as worn by Daniel Craig," calling it "the watch of choice for Daniel Craig as the intense demolition expert Joe Bang." The build is pure Red Monkey: a 43.5mm quartz chronograph head set on a hand-stitched leather cuff two and five-eighths inches wide, hand-built to order in Los Angeles for $375. In the bar still with his brothers, the cuff sits plainly on Craig's left wrist, a big dark dial on a slab of black leather above his tattooed hand, about as far from Bond's Omega as a watch can get. The film carried a first of its own: Logan Lucky launched Fingerprint Releasing, the company Soderbergh created to distribute films independently of the studios.
