Daniel Craig wears an Omega Seamaster

In David Fincher's 2011 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Daniel Craig plays Mikael Blomkvist, a Swedish investigative journalist hired to solve the disappearance of a young woman from a rich family's island forty years earlier. Most of his scenes are quiet ones: a man in glasses and a sweater, reading files, sitting at a screen. In one of them he leans over a computer beside his Millennium colleague Erika Berger, played by Robin Wright, and a steel watch with a dark dial sits on his wrist, half-tucked under his cuff.

It is an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. Writing for BAMF Style, the screen-style site identified it precisely as the Aqua Terra Chronometer reference 231.13.39.21.06.001, a 38.5mm steel watch on a black leather strap with what Omega calls a teak dial, named for the fine vertical grooves that run down the face like the planking on a yacht deck. The site calls it "his trusty Omega," worn throughout the investigation. Look closely at the still and you can just make out the steel case and dark dial, though Craig's turned wrist hides the rest.

Daniel Craig is also Omega's best-known ambassador, the man who wears the brand as James Bond, and Omega noticed the watch here too. The company ran a page about the film on its own site, and watch spotters trace the identification to a post on Omega's Facebook. So the same actor, wearing the same make of watch, turns up in a Fincher crime drama and in a 007 film. What the Aqua Terra is doing on Blomkvist's wrist, beyond keeping time, the film itself never says.
