Ron Howard's Rush stages the 1976 Formula One season as a duel between two temperaments: James Hunt, the instinctive English playboy, and Niki Lauda, the methodical Austrian who treated racing as engineering. Daniel Brühl plays Lauda, the driver who calculated his own odds of survival and still climbed back into the car weeks after nearly burning to death at the Nürburgring.

On Lauda's wrist is a Heuer Silverstone, the cushion-cased automatic chronograph Heuer named after the British circuit. TAG Heuer loaned the production original vintage pieces, and the one Brühl wears is a 1974 Silverstone with a blue dial and a blue leather strap, later returned to the brand's museum in Switzerland. Across the grid, Chris Hemsworth's Hunt wears a fully gold Heuer Carrera, the chronograph Jack Heuer built in 1963 and named after a Mexican road race.

There is a backwardness to how the film hands out those two watches. Heuer was Ferrari's official timekeeper in the 1970s, and Jack Heuer gave the gold Carrera to his Ferrari drivers, engraved with their name and blood type. Lauda drove for Ferrari and Hunt did not, so the watch that really belonged to Lauda's world rides on his rival's wrist, while Lauda gets the Silverstone.
