Neïla Salah arrives late to her first lecture at Panthéon-Assas and the professor, Pierre Mazard, humiliates her in front of the hall with remarks tainted with racism. The dean's penance for him is the engine of Le Brio (2017): mentor the student he insulted and prepare her for a national debating competition. Yvan Attal directs Daniel Auteuil as Mazard opposite Camélia Jordana as Neïla, a performance that won Jordana the César for Best Female Revelation.
The watch is Auteuil's own. The French site Montres-de-Luxe identified the yellow gold Patek Philippe perpetual calendar that appears briefly in a single shot and supplied the provenance: it is the actor's personal timepiece, one he has worn regularly for years, even daily. The celebrity-watch tracker Watch Paparazzi independently lists a Patek perpetual calendar, reference 3940, in Auteuil's collection. A perpetual calendar follows the day, date, month, moon phase and leap year cycle without correction, and nobody has pinned the film's quick glimpse to a reference. Either way, what Mazard wears is not a prop. Auteuil simply kept his own watch on.
