In Tightrope (1984), Clint Eastwood plays Wes Block, a New Orleans homicide detective hunting a killer who strangles women in the French Quarter's sex trade, a world Block himself moves through after dark. Richard Tuggle directed. Block is divorced, raising two daughters, and the film lets the line between the detective and the man he is chasing blur in a way Eastwood's heroes usually did not.
On his wrist is the same watch Eastwood wore in several of his own films: his personal Rolex GMT-Master "Root Beer," reference 16753, the two-tone steel-and-gold version with a brown-and-gold bezel on a Jubilee bracelet. Rolex built the GMT-Master in the mid-1950s for Pan Am pilots who needed a second time zone, and the gold "Root Beer" arrived in the 1970s. Collectors came to call the 16753 "the Clint Eastwood" because he kept wearing his on screen.
