Clint Eastwood wears a Rolex GMT-Master

A man in a gray suit pours himself a drink, and on his wrist is a Rolex he did not get from the wardrobe department. Clint Eastwood directed and starred in Firefox (1982), a Cold War thriller in which he plays Major Mitchell Gant, a Vietnam veteran haunted by combat flashbacks who is sent into the Soviet Union to steal an experimental MiG, a prototype jet whose weapons respond to the pilot's thoughts. Gant spends the first half of the film slipping through Moscow in disguise, and throughout it he wears a two-tone Rolex GMT-Master "Root Beer," reference 16753, with its brown-and-gold bezel and steel-and-gold case.

The watch was Eastwood's own. He reportedly received it from T. Walker Lloyd, a longtime Rolex executive, and he wore his personal piece on screen across several of his films rather than whatever a costumer might have handed him. Collectors came to call the 16753 "the Clint Eastwood" for that reason, and Firefox was its first screen appearance.

The choice fits the part. Rolex introduced the GMT-Master in the mid-1950s for Pan Am pilots who needed to read two time zones at once on long-haul flights, and Gant is a pilot crossing into hostile airspace. For once, the second hour hand was a function the character could actually use.
