Claude Brasseur wears a Rolex Submariner

In Claude Pinoteau's Le Grand Escogriffe (1976), released abroad as The Big Operator, Yves Montand's aging crook Émile Morland talks his old friend Aristide into helping him kidnap the young son of a rich arms dealer. Claude Brasseur plays Aristide, billed as Ari, a small-time ex-crook who knows the plan is a bad idea and goes along anyway. The role won Brasseur the César for Best Supporting Actor in 1977.

The watch is a different matter. A single French watch site says Brasseur wears a steel Rolex Submariner, the dive watch on its acrylic crystal, but gives no reference, no scene, and nothing to corroborate it, and the watch is not visible in the one still that survives. By the mid-1970s the Submariner had grown from a diver's tool into a watch a great many men wore on dry land, so a Submariner on a French ex-crook is plausible enough, but it is not confirmed.
