Christopher Walken plays Frank Abagnale Sr. in Catch Me If You Can, the father whose financial collapse and divorce set his teenage son on a path to becoming one of history's most successful con artists. Steven Spielberg directed this 2002 crime drama, based on the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., who impersonated a pilot, doctor, and lawyer before he turned 21. Leonardo DiCaprio plays the younger Frank, and Walken earned an Oscar nomination for playing his father as a dreamer who never quite figured out how the game is rigged against people like him. The elder Abagnale keeps trying schemes that do not work while his son pulls off increasingly audacious frauds, and their scenes together have a sad tenderness. Walken plays Frank Sr. as someone whose pride will not let him accept help from the son who has surpassed him. The performance is quieter than Walken's more eccentric roles, and it grounds the film's flashier con-artist sequences in genuine family pain. His watch has not been identified.
