Christian Bale wears a Rolex Submariner

Walter Wade Jr. is the son of a New York real estate tycoon, and he is used to his father's money smoothing things over. In John Singleton's 2000 Shaft, Christian Bale plays him as a man who, over nothing, beats a young Black student named Trey Howard to death outside a restaurant and then treats the killing as a problem to be managed. Samuel L. Jackson is John Shaft, the NYPD detective who arrests him. Wade makes his 200,000 dollar bail, skips the country to Switzerland for two years, and comes back to stand trial, by which point he has hired the Dominican dealer Peoples Hernandez to make the one witness disappear.

As for the watch, one French watch column identifies it as a steel Rolex Submariner and notes that it appears several times through the film. That is the only account of it, and the published round-ups of Bale's on-screen watches do not mention Shaft at all. A steel Submariner in 2000 would have been the reference 16610, the modern dive Rolex, with a unidirectional bezel, a date window, and 300 metres of water resistance. The film's images do not give a clean look at Wade's wrist, so the identification rests on that single source rather than anything legible on screen.
