Ken Miles wears his watch the way a racing driver does, turned to the inside of his wrist so he can read it without letting go of the wheel. Christian Bale plays Miles in James Mangold's Ford v Ferrari (2019), the British driver and mechanic whose 1966 Le Mans win was taken from him when Ford executives ordered a three-car photo finish and the rules handed the victory to another car. Miles was famously short-fused, and Bale plays every run-in with a Ford suit as a barely contained detonation. Two months after that Le Mans, the real Miles was killed testing a prototype at Riverside Raceway.

The watch is a Heuer Autavia, reference 2446, the version collectors call the "Rindt" after the racer Jochen Rindt. It has a black dial with contrasting white sub-registers and a tachymeter bezel for reading speed off a measured distance. It is a near-miss on period accuracy: the 2446 reached the market in 1968, two years after the events the film stages. And because Miles keeps it turned to the inside of his wrist, it is one of the harder watches in the film to catch on screen.
