Chris Tucker wears an IWC Portugieser

In Rush Hour 3, Brett Ratner moves his mismatched cops to Paris, and the film parks Chris Tucker's Detective James Carter at a casino gaming table, across the red felt from a woman in a deep blue gown, chips and a champagne flute on the cloth. Carter does the thing Carter does, which is talk. He has spent three films sure that he is smoother and more important than an LAPD detective has any business being, and the wardrobe agrees with him. He is in a burgundy suit with a brooch at the lapel, and a watch rides half under the cuff on his left wrist.

It is a chronograph, the crown bracketed by two pushers, with a white dial, slim Arabic numerals, and gilt leaf hands on a dark leather strap. By appearance it is an IWC Portugieser, the chronograph in a line IWC has built since 1939, when the first Portugieser, reference 325, fit a pocket-watch movement into a wristwatch and came out unusually large, its dial kept clean. Legibility is the point of the watch.

Carter keeps it turned away. The watch never squares to the camera, it stays angled into the cuff, and the dial built to be read at a glance spends the scene where no one across the table can read it. A chronograph times things to the second, and this one rides on the man in the film least likely to be counting anything but himself.
