A street hustler gets nine days to become someone else. In Bad Company (2002), Chris Rock plays Jake Hayes, pulled in by the CIA after the twin brother he never knew - a Harvard-educated agency officer - is killed in the line of duty. Anthony Hopkins plays Oakes, the handler stuck turning a hustler into a passable spy before a stolen suitcase nuke ends up in terrorist hands.
So what do you pack into a disguise like that? The accent, the posture, the dead man's life - and the kit. The agency hands Hayes a black-dialed Hamilton Khaki Chronograph, and Worn & Wound, looking back over Hamilton's long run on screen, picks it out as his watch. It's a field piece from a company that really did build watches for soldiers - Hamilton became the official watchmaker for the US military in 1942 and stopped selling to the public for the rest of the war. Which I find a little funny here: the one thing on Hayes with a genuine service record is the watch.
