Tyler Rake is a black-market mercenary hired to pull a drug lord's kidnapped son out of Dhaka, and most of Extraction (2020) is the getting-out: a running, bone-crunching chase through one of the most densely populated cities in the world, built around a long single-take sequence. Sam Hargrave directed, the Russo brothers produced, and Joe Russo wrote the screenplay from the graphic novel Ciudad. On Chris Hemsworth's wrist through all of it is a roughly $300 Casio, not the five-figure Swiss watch an action lead usually gets.
The watch is a Casio G-Shock Rangeman, reference GW-9400-3, the olive-green version of the brand's survival model. It runs on solar power, sets itself off atomic radio signals, and carries Casio's Triple Sensor for altitude, barometric pressure, temperature, and a compass, inside a case rated shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200 metres. Time and Tide called it a spot-on choice for Rake, a watch Casio bills as able to stand up to the most gruelling conditions imaginable. G-Central, which followed the watch through the film, noted clear shots where the G-Shock logo is legible on screen.
Hemsworth wears a G-Shock Rangeman again in Extraction 2 (2023), the watch carrying over with the character.
