Santa Claus has a code name in Red One, and it is the title. When he is kidnapped on Christmas Eve, Callum Drift, the head of North Pole security played by Dwayne Johnson, has to team up with Jack (the Wolf) O'Malley, a black-hat hacker and the world's most famous bounty hunter, played by Chris Evans, to save Christmas. Jake Kasdan directed Chris Morgan's script, and Amazon MGM released the film in November 2024. On O'Malley's wrist is an IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII, and not the standard one: the Antoine de Saint-Exupery edition, reference IW327003.
The Saint-Exupery edition takes the Mark XVIII and warms it up: a tobacco brown dial and matching brown strap in place of the standard black, light Arabic numerals, a date at 3 o'clock, a 40 millimeter steel case. IWC launched it in 2017 at about 4,500 euros, a regular production model rather than a numbered limited run. The caseback carries an engraving of a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, the aircraft Antoine de Saint-Exupery was flying on July 31, 1944, when he took off from Corsica on an unarmed reconnaissance flight and vanished without a trace; the wreckage was only found off Marseille in 2000. Two years before he disappeared, he had written and illustrated The Little Prince.
In one scene Evans stands at a tropical bar in sunglasses, Johnson beside him in crimson North Pole armor, and the Mark XVIII sits on O'Malley's left wrist with the sleeve pushed back: steel case, brown strap, the dark dial reading more brown than black in the sun, the numerals plainly visible.
