Channing Tatum wears an Omega Speedmaster

There is a scene in Fly Me to the Moon where the astronauts get lined up for a photographer and told to put their watches up and smile for Omega. The product placement is the plot. Greg Berlanti directed the comedy, Rose Gilroy wrote the screenplay, and Sony and Apple Original Films released it in July 2024: Scarlett Johansson plays Kelly Jones, a marketing specialist brought in to sell the Apollo program to the public, Channing Tatum plays Cole Davis, the NASA launch director, and midway through, Kelly is handed a covert directive to prepare a fake moon landing in case the real one fails, a project codenamed Artemis.

Kelly's first product layout in the film is an Omega ad, and it is a real one. The exact advertisement ran in periodicals and newspapers in 1968, built around a NASA photograph of astronaut Ed White, with copy calling the watch built like a space capsule and noting that the Omega Chronograph times astronauts in space; the fine print still advertises that year's Olympic broadcast. The history is real too: NASA put the Speedmaster through a gruelling series of tests and certified it as the first and only watch for all manned missions, and astronauts relied on it for the manual timing of burn sequences. In the film, the line on the watch is simpler: the first watch worn on the moon.

Davis signs off on the sponsorship money with one condition, that Kelly prove Cocoa Beach has a decent place to get dinner. His own wrist carries the campaign's subject: a steel Speedmaster with a black dial on a steel bracelet, visible when he leans on a boardwalk rail in a blue polo, the case catching the sun. No source has put a reference number on the exact piece; what the screen shows is steel on steel.
