Catherine Deneuve wears a Rolex Lady-Datejust

Revenge thrillers ran through 1970s French cinema, and Gérard Pirès's Act of Aggression (1975) is one of the bleaker ones. Jean-Louis Trintignant plays Paul Varlin, a businessman whose wife and daughter are killed when a trio of motorcyclists run their car off the road on the way to the coast. When the law gets him nowhere, he goes after the men himself. Catherine Deneuve plays Sarah, the sister of his dead wife, who stays close to him through the grief and becomes his lover.

The watch on Deneuve's wrist is harder to pin down. A single French watch site identifies it as a two-tone Rolex Lady-Datejust in steel and gold, and guesses it was probably her own rather than a costume piece, but it cites no close-up and the watch is not legible in the stills that survive. Rolex introduced the Lady-Datejust in 1957 as a smaller version of the men's Datejust, and by the 1970s it was a common choice for women who wanted a real Rolex rather than a dress watch. On that much the identification rests: a plausible watch for the part, on a single unverified source.
