Renny Harlin's Driven is a 2001 open-wheel racing film that arrived too late for Reynolds and too early for ironic appreciation. Reynolds plays Carl Henry, a team owner who has survived decades in the sport and carries the weight of every crash his drivers endured. The watch on his wrist is unidentified -- whatever it is, it reads as an older man's dress watch, something gold-toned and conservative.
Reynolds was 65 when Driven was filmed, deep into the career valley between his 1970s superstardom and the late-career renaissance that Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights had briefly provided. The unidentified watch is visible but not prominent, which suits a man who no longer needs anyone to notice what time it is.
