Beaux-parents is a French comedy with a sweet, slightly absurd premise: a couple, played by Josiane Balasko and Didier Bourdon, love their son-in-law so much that when their daughter divorces him, they keep seeing him in secret rather than give him up. The son-in-law, Harold, is played by Bruno Bénabar, better known in France as a singer-songwriter. On his wrist is an Omega Speedmaster, in steel on a leather strap.
The Speedmaster is a serious watch to put on a man whose job in the film is mostly to be likable at dinner. Omega introduced it in 1957 as a motorsport chronograph, but its fame came from somewhere else. In 1965 NASA put a handful of chronographs through a punishing run of tests, heat and cold and vacuum and shock, and the Speedmaster was the only one that survived. It went to the Moon on the wrists of the Apollo astronauts and has been the Moonwatch ever since. Here it is on a leather strap, in a comedy about in-laws who cannot let go.
