The still catches Jimmy Monroe face down in the dune grass at night, a pair of Nikon binoculars up to his eyes and a steel watch on the wrist of the hand that holds them. Bruce Willis plays Monroe, a veteran NYPD detective, in Cop Out, Kevin Smith's 2010 buddy comedy. Tracy Morgan is his partner Paul Hodges, grinning in the sand beside him while Monroe does the watching.

The two of them are suspended from the force, running this stakeout on their own. Monroe is in the grass because someone stole his 1952 Topps Andy Pafko, the number-one card in Topps' first modern set, the kind kids ruined by banding their stacks together. His was pristine, kept by his father without a rubber band ever touching it, and he meant to sell it to pay for his daughter Ava's expensive wedding. The card was lifted before he could, so he went looking for it himself.

On Monroe's wrist is a polished steel link bracelet, its case turned up into the binoculars and the dial out of sight, so the brand never shows. It is the ordinary thing in the frame, the opposite of what the plot prizes, a piece of cardboard with a year and a name printed on it. The search ends badly. The partners corner the thief, but in the last fight Paul's own bullet destroys the Pafko, and the wedding money with it.
