On March 5, 2020, Swatch put a watch called the Q on sale: 7,007 copies at 220 dollars, for a film nobody would see for another year and a half. No Time to Die kept sliding down the release calendar, but its quartermaster's watch was already out in the world. Swatch had designed it with the film's costume designer, Suttirat Anne Larlarb, building on the Skin Irony line the brand launched in 2018: a 42 millimeter steel case, a brown leather strap in red tartan, and an open dial where you can watch the quartz movement work inside a red ring.

The deal ran in the opposite direction from the franchise's usual watch business. Bond's Omega gets the hero close-up and the retail push follows the premiere. Ben Whishaw's Q wears his Swatch on the right wrist, glances at it at least twice by Bond Lifestyle's count, and never gets a close-up at all. The closest look came from the production itself, in an official Bond 25 still that fills the frame with the watch: checked shirt cuff, red seconds hand caught mid-sweep, loose watch parts blurred across the workbench behind it.

One detail separates the watch Swatch sold from the watch Whishaw wore. The retail edition carries a small blue Q at the six o'clock position, and Bond Lifestyle flags that letter as what keeps the limited edition "not 100% screen accurate": the watch in the film probably never had it. The official still backs that up. Zoom in on the dial and the spot where the Q would sit is bare.
