Barry Newman wears a Rolex GMT-Master

John Talbot is a salvage expert who lost his wife, brother, and young son when their plane was destroyed, and he spends the film conning his way inside the criminal organization responsible. Barry Newman plays him in Fear Is the Key (1972), which Robert Carrington adapted from the Alistair MacLean novel and Michael Tuchner directed. The film opens with a car chase that runs nearly twenty minutes before Talbot's plan even comes clear. John Vernon plays the villain Vyland, and Ben Kingsley makes his film debut, a decade before Gandhi.

Talbot wears a Rolex GMT-Master, the reference 1675 with the red-and-blue Pepsi bezel. Rolex built the first GMT-Master in 1954 with Pan American Airways, so its pilots could read a second time zone; by 1972 the 1675 was the established version, with crown guards and a date at three.
