Trench enters The Expendables 2 as somebody else's hostage. Barney Ross's crew storms a compound to free a kidnapped Chinese billionaire and finds, among the prisoners, the head of a rival outfit who had come for the same man. Trench? Oh, this is embarrassing, he says. Yeah, it sure is, comes the answer. He was there saving this Chinese billionaire; so, it turns out, were they; as Trench puts it, a scheduling problem. He calls Gunner Frankenstein while getting cut loose, then demands a weapon. Something big. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays him, and later in the film he is back, firing an automatic shotgun out the door of a very small car.

Look at his left wrist in that car. Barney's crew all wear the same watch in this film, the bronze Panerai Submersible that Stallone bought for each of them. Trench is not on the crew, and his wrist breaks the pattern: a Bell & Ross BR 01-92, a 46mm square pilot's watch with oversize luminous numerals. Bell & Ross introduced the BR 01 in 2005 with one idea, to turn an aircraft cockpit instrument into a wristwatch. The hands are the kind you would find on an altimeter, and the four screws at the corners are not decoration; they hold the case together. On paper a 46mm square sounds enormous. On Schwarzenegger it reads like a normal watch.
