Arinzé Kene wears a Bulova Caravelle

Julia Hart's I'm Your Woman follows Jean, a 1970s mob wife played by Rachel Brosnahan who is handed a baby and told to run after her husband crosses his partners. Arinze Kene plays Cal, the man assigned to keep her alive, and the film stays with the quiet logistics of that job, the safe-house moves and the long waits, more than with the violence that set it going. Cal blends into that patience. His clothes are unshowy, and so is the watch on his wrist.

It is a small gold dress watch, a yellow-gold rectangular case with softly rounded corners, a squared black dial with gold hour markers and a single small diamond at twelve, on a gold bar-link bracelet. The look points to a Caravelle, the budget line Bulova launched in 1962 to put the family name on a watch a working man could afford. Joseph Bulova had started the parent company in New York back in 1875, and by the 1970s a Caravelle was a department-store piece that kept good time without making a show of it, which is exactly the right thing on the wrist of a fixer paid to be forgettable.
