Antonio de la Torre wears a Rolex Submariner

On the poster for The Realm (El Reino, 2018), Manuel Lopez-Vidal is packing bundles of euro notes and a stack of ledgers into a duffel bag, and at the center of the frame, lit brighter than his face, sits a steel dive watch on his left wrist: black rotating bezel, black dial, steel bracelet. The French watch site Montres de Luxe identified it as a Rolex Submariner and pointed to that same artwork, noting that the watch is "parfaitement visible sur l'affiche du film," perfectly visible on the film's poster. No second source has put a name to it, and at poster distance no crown is readable on the dial, so the Submariner reading is a strong visual fit rather than a proven reference.

Antonio de la Torre plays Lopez-Vidal, a regional politician in line to head his regional council, whose lifestyle runs on kickbacks from public-works contracts. When the scandal breaks, the party bosses in Madrid decide the region's corruption must be rooted out, and Manuel is made one of the fall guys, arrested and charged, while the men above him stay clean; the film follows the infernal spiral he enters trying to avoid taking the fall alone. Rodrigo Sorogoyen directed and wrote it with Isabel Pena, drawing on the decade's Spanish corruption scandals while presenting the story as fiction, and it ends on live television, where the journalist Amaia attacks him as "a self-seeking cog in a vicious machine who is now trying to save his skin." At the 33rd Goya Awards the film won seven prizes, including Best Director, Best Actor for de la Torre, and Best Original Screenplay. It opened in Spain on September 28, 2018, through Warner Bros. Pictures Espana.
