Twisters splits its storm chasers into two camps. Javi, played by Anthony Ramos, runs Storm Par, a corporate outfit with military grade radar and real money behind it; Tyler Owens, Glen Powell's viral tornado wrangler, chases with a YouTube following and puts his merchandise profits toward storm victims; and between them stands Kate Carter, Daisy Edgar-Jones's meteorologist, still carrying a tornado experiment that went wrong. Lee Isaac Chung directed the sequel to the 1996 Twister as his follow-up to Minari, saying his goal was to balance entertainment with taking natural disasters seriously, and the film took 372.3 million dollars worldwide on the best opening weekend a natural disaster film has ever had.

Javi wears a G-Shock DW-9052 in black resin, which appears to be the DW9052-1V. The placement was official. Casio announced the watch's role in the film itself, calling the DW9052 a lifeline rather than a mere accessory on the wrist of a storm chaser, and G-Shock U.S. partnered with Universal on a Facebook giveaway over the film's opening weekend, July 19 through 21, 2024: five winners, each taking a Twisters prize pack of two DW9052 watches, four movie tickets, and film merchandise. The watch itself is the basic article of the G-Shock idea, shock resistant, water resistant to 200 meters, a stopwatch and timer in a black resin case.
