Steven Caple Jr. set Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in the Brooklyn of 1994, and built its human half around Noah Diaz, an ex-military electronics expert played by Anthony Ramos who cannot land a job, owes mounting medical bills for his younger brother Kris, who has sickle cell disease, and gets far enough down the list of options to attempt stealing a Porsche. The Porsche turns out to be an Autobot. The film opened in June 2023 and took 441.7 million dollars against a budget near 200 million, the lowest gross in the franchise, with critics at 51 percent calling it one of the series's more enjoyable outings anyway.
The watch on Noah's wrist took detective work proportionate to the period. G-Central could not settle it from the trailer, worked from frame enlargements, and concluded it was a G-Shock DW-5900, most likely the original DW-5900C-1 judging by the whitish lettering on the bezel, though the 2018 revival shares the same color scheme; a later update noted the identification was confirmed in New York Times reporting. The date matters: the first DW-5900 was released in 1992, which makes it exactly the watch a Brooklyn ex-soldier could be wearing in 1994. Period dressing on a wrist is easy to get wrong by a decade. This one is right by two years.
The watch outlived the shoot. G-Central later documented Ramos still wearing the DW-5900 in the promotional videos for his 2023 single Se Fue, at public events, and in his own photographs. The costume department picked it for Noah Diaz, and Anthony Ramos kept it for himself.
