Dante Lam's Jiang Hu: The Triad Zone (2000) is a Hong Kong crime comedy that plays the triad world for dark humor as much as menace. Andy Lau plays Hung Yan, alongside Tony Leung Ka-fai as a worn-out gang boss who has reached the top of the underworld and found mostly exhaustion there. Sandra Ng and Anthony Wong fill out the cast.
On Lau's wrist is a TAG Heuer Monaco, the square-cased chronograph Heuer launched in 1969 with a blue dial and one of the first automatic chronograph movements. In the Hong Kong crime films of this era, a Western luxury watch marked a character who moved between legitimate business and the underworld, and the Monaco's angular case sets it apart from the round Rolexes that fill the genre.
