Andy Garcia wears a Rolex Datejust

In Book Club (2018), four lifelong friends, played by Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen, have their monthly reading derailed when Fifty Shades of Grey lands on the pile, and the novel unsettles four settled love lives. Andy Garcia enters as Mitchell, a pilot who courts Keaton's Diane, complete with a ride in his own plane. Bill Holderman directed, his first feature, and Paramount opened the film in May 2018 to more than 104 million dollars worldwide against a 14 million dollar budget.

The French watch site Montres de Luxe identified the watch on Mitchell's wrist as a steel Rolex Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet, and added the observation that carries the record: the same model shows up on Garcia in everyday photographs, so the site judged it "tres probablement" his personal watch. The guess fits the man, whose off-screen Rolex habit is documented down to a specific reference, the orange-hand Explorer II 1655 he wore in The Godfather Part III and kept for himself. Nobody else has identified the Book Club watch, and no available still shows it, so the steel Datejust stands as one hedged French call resting on a familiar wrist. The Datejust itself has been in production since 1945.
