Aldo Maccione wears a Rolex Datejust

In Le Bourreau des cœurs, Aldo Maccione plays Vittorio Garibaldi, a film extra who dreams of becoming a movie star. Christian Gion's 1983 comedy follows him after he wins a television contest, "Le roi du cinéma" (king of cinema). Japanese producers notice him and fly him to Tahiti, not to star in their picture but to work as another actor's double. Maccione plays the part in the register that made his name, the preening charmer with the slow, self-satisfied walk that became his trademark. The film drew a little over 1.6 million admissions in France and finished 24th at the box office for the year.

By the account of the French watch site Montres-de-luxe, Vittorio wears a steel Rolex Datejust, and the watch is probably Maccione's own: he wears the same model in C'est pas moi, c'est lui, the comedy with Pierre Richard. Rolex introduced the Datejust in 1945, the first self-winding wristwatch to show the date in a window on the dial, and in plain steel it became the everyday Rolex.

The Tahiti scenes were shot on Tetiaroa, the private atoll owned by Marlon Brando. Brando refused to appear in the film.
