Judy Benjamin is a widow by the morning after her wedding. In Private Benjamin (1980), Goldie Hawn's sheltered Judy marries Yale Goodman, played by Albert Brooks, who dies in bed on their wedding night, and the loss is what sends her, aimless, into the Army. Howard Zieff directed, from a script by Nancy Meyers, Charles Shyer, and Harvey Miller. Brooks is in only the first act, long enough to establish the comfortable life Judy is about to leave behind.
His watch is harder to pin down than the plot. A French watch-in-film column identifies it as a yellow-gold Cartier Tank, but the claim carries no source, and the watch is not clearly visible in the stills from his brief screen time. The Tank itself is well documented: Louis Cartier designed it in 1917, and it has been in production, largely unchanged, ever since.
