Alain Delon wears a Cartier Tank

Un Flic (1972) was Jean-Pierre Melville's last film; he died the following year. Alain Delon plays Commissioner Édouard Coleman, a Paris police chief investigating a bank robbery led by Simon (Richard Crenna), a nightclub owner who is also his friend. Coleman is having an affair with Cathy (Catherine Deneuve), who is Simon's lover, and it was the third film Melville and Delon made together.

The watch is a Cartier Tank Arrondie in yellow gold, and it was Delon's own. During the shoot he realized Melville wore the same model, and Cartier has shared a photograph of the two of them comparing the matching watches on set. The Arrondie is a softened, extra-flat version of the Tank that Louis Cartier first drew in 1917; it is usually dated to the late 1970s, which makes the 1972 film one of the earliest records of it, a point Hodinkee has raised.
