Alain Delon wears an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

Pairing Alain Delon with Jean-Paul Belmondo was the kind of casting that only works if both men are willing to play their age. Patrice Leconte's 1998 action comedy puts the two most famous French leading men of the twentieth century together as Leo Brassac (Belmondo) and Julien Vignal (Delon), aging rogues who discover that a young woman named Alice (Vanessa Paradis) may be the daughter one of them never knew about. The Russian mafia gets involved because Alice stole the wrong car. Leconte keeps it light.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak on Delon's wrist is the watch equivalent of casting Delon himself — expensive, beautiful, and aware of its own legend. Gerald Genta designed the Royal Oak in 1972 for Audemars Piguet, and it redefined what a luxury sports watch could be: stainless steel treated like precious metal, an octagonal bezel with exposed screws, a thin integrated bracelet.
